Making of the Kanye West Bear

Making of the Kanye West Bear

Dropout Bear is an anthropomorphic bear that Kanye West used for his album art. I made this bear many years ago when teaching myself how to use ZBrush. I revisited the project years later when I purchased my first 3D printer. I was teaching myself airbrushing using a central pneumatic harbor freight airbrush.
Making of Zombie Kane

Making of Zombie Kane

commissioned to make a zombie version of a kid who loves the walking Dead. "Zombie Kane." I thought the creation of Kane's base mesh was a fairly standard process so I started recording midway through the project.

NVIDIA TESLA K80 GPU MOUNT

NVIDIA Tesla K80 GPU Mount

Please note: Nvidia was not my client.
If you render 3D scenes or animations for the past 5 yrs. Cuda Cores have been king when it comes to GPU Rendering. GPU (Graphical Processing Units) have always been one of the more expensive parts of any computer build so when Covid-19 and the pandemic hit, matters got worst when GPU prices soared globally and an entire scalping market was born for RTX 3000 series GPU's. For the first year after launch on average the cost of a 3000 series GPU was consistently 3x MSRP 3600 instead of 1200. People noticed price drops on the server level GPU's but not on the consumer side. A small production house that often partners with Designer Desmond out to discuss the possibility of designing fan mounts for server grade GPU's.
Why would a server grade gpu need a fan mount? Server racks usually have fans that cool everything inside, meaning the parts inside usually don't have active cooling or any internal fans, because they are being passively cooled via the server rack cooling system. NVIDIA Tesla K80 Perfect example. This card is designed to go inside of a server alongside many k80's and has no internal cooling to speak of, only radiator fins. The production house wanted to use k80 GPU's because they have an insane amount of cuda cores and are ridiculously cheap after newer cards in the class have been released. K80 new MSRP was 5,000 but now (Jan 2022) can be purchased used or refurbished for 250 - 500. For comparison a consumer grade card for the same price (400) is known as the GTX 1070 and it has 1,920 cuda cores, whereas the K80 has 4992 CUDA Cores. The reason consumer style computer towers can't use the K80 was only limited by cooling. The brushless centrifugal fan required to run the gpu only costs 12.99. With no way to mount the GPU Designer Desmond got to work on creating a mount.
MINDFUL HEALTH BAKERY Custom pie mold
Picture
Mindful Health is a low carb bakery in Santa Cruz C.A. who offers no added sugar, gluten free, dairy free options.
With orders for 700+ Pies a week, it was clear that Mindful Health Bakery could no longer make all the pies by hand. Their chief operation officer Mike Ross reached out to Designer Desmond via facebook and we worked closely via zoom to develop a pie mold that would work perfectly with their already purchased pie tins. On the very first attempt we nailed something that worked and on the second order of pie molds we made some very slight adjustments to make everything perfectly seamless in their production. Below are photos of the creation process and final pie mold. I wish Mike and Brittni much continued success!
