DesignerDesmond
By April 2023, I'm thrilled to share that I've successfully completed over 85 3D printing projects for my valued clients here at DesignerDesmond. It's really exciting to think about the potential collaboration with you and your team for some unique and replicated 3D prints. I want you to know that my expertise spans a variety of designs, from practical ones to playful toys and even virtual prototypes.

When it comes to the actual printing process, I typically choose PLA for larger projects, as it works great, and for more intricate, smaller prints, I opt for resin. But here's the thing – I'm flexible! If you have special requests or preferences, I'm all ears and ready to make it work.

And guess what? I've got a network of partners that I can tap into for those times when a more comprehensive production solution is needed. So, rest assured, your production needs are in really capable hands here at DesignerDesmond. Let's make some amazing things together!

Making of the Kanye West Bear

Making of the Kanye West Bear

Delve into the origin of the iconic Dropout Bear, an anthropomorphic marvel famously embraced by Kanye West as album art. This artistic journey commenced years ago when I embarked on a self-guided exploration of ZBrush. Inspired by West's vision, I meticulously sculpted this bear, breathing life into its form.

Years later, armed with a newfound arsenal – my inaugural 3D printer – I reignited the passion of that initial creation. This rebirth aligned seamlessly with my pursuit of mastering airbrushing, an art I honed using a central pneumatic harbor freight airbrush. The result? A harmonious fusion of technology, skill, and creative fervor, culminating in the embodiment of Dropout Bear.

Witness the convergence of music and design, where the legacy of Kanye West meets the dedication of an artist driven to refine his craft.

Stay tuned for the captivating tale behind this remarkable journey.
Making of Zombie Kane

commissioned to make a zombie version of a kid who loves the walking Dead. "Zombie Kane." I thought the creation of Kane's base mesh was a fairly standard process so I started recording midway through the project.
Charm necklace for Produkt Inc

Charm necklace for Produkt Inc

Designer Desmond and Produkt inc have been working collaboratively for years now. Our first project together was Produkt Boy 3D animation and Print. The original Produkt boy was designed by Danny Flores aka Sunny Dope Fx. This charm was Drawn by Samson Produkt Zuniga the owner and founder of Produkt Inc and converted to a 3D Pendant charm by Designer Desmond.

NVIDIA TESLA K80 GPU MOUNT

NVIDIA Tesla K80 GPU Mount

**Important Note: Nvidia wasn't my client.**

If you've been into 3D scenes or animations for around five years, you know that CUDA Cores play a big role in GPU Rendering. But the cost of GPUs has always been a challenge, and the pandemic made things even tougher with prices going up all over the world. During this time, a small production company teamed up with me, Designer Desmond, to tackle an interesting issue.

These special GPUs, like the NVIDIA Tesla K80, usually rely only on fans in server racks to keep cool. This is different from GPUs that have their own fans for active cooling. This got us thinking: What if we could design fan mounts for these GPUs that depend on radiator fins for cooling? These GPUs have powerful CUDA Cores and they're not too pricey, which makes them pretty appealing.
Now, here's where things get even more interesting. I took on the challenge of creating mounts for these GPUs so they could fit into regular computer towers. See, the production company had individual computers for their staff, not a big rack setup. So, we needed to find a way to cool these GPUs inside the computer cases.

The end result was a successful collaboration – a clear example of how creative thinking and expertise can overcome tricky technical problems.
MINDFUL HEALTH BAKERY Custom pie mold

Meet Mindful Health, a Santa Cruz, CA-based low-carb bakery that specializes in no added sugar, gluten-free, and dairy-free options.
With a remarkable demand of over 700 pies weekly, it became evident that crafting each pie by hand was no longer feasible. This is when Mike Ross, their Chief Operating Officer, took the initiative. Connecting through Facebook, Mike Ross reached out to Designer Desmond for a solution. Through productive Zoom sessions, we collaborated closely to devise a pie mold that seamlessly aligned with their existing pie tins. Remarkably, our very first attempt yielded promising results. Building upon that success, subtle refinements were introduced during the second order of pie molds, ensuring flawless integration into their production process.

In the picture gallery, you'll journey through the creation process and witness the final perfected pie mold. As their story continues, here's to Mindful Health Bakery and heartfelt wishes for the ongoing success of Mike and Brittni!

What is 3D Printing?

3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing, is a technology that creates three-dimensional objects layer by layer using digital design files as a blueprint. It's a versatile process that has revolutionized various industries, from manufacturing and healthcare to art and design.

There are different types of 3D printing technologies, two of which I use are Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) and Resin 3D printing:

1. Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM): In FDM, a thermoplastic material, often in the form of filament, is heated and extruded through a nozzle. The nozzle moves along a predetermined path, depositing the melted material layer by layer to build up the object. FDM is widely used for creating functional prototypes, mechanical parts, and even artistic pieces.

2. Resin 3D Printing: Resin 3D printing, also called stereolithography (SLA) or digital light processing (DLP), uses a liquid photopolymer resin that hardens when exposed to a specific wavelength of light. A light source, such as a laser or a projector, selectively cures the resin layer by layer, forming the object. Resin printing produces highly detailed and intricate objects with smoother surface finishes, making it suitable for jewelry, dental models, and high-detail prototypes.

Both FDM and resin 3D printing offer unique advantages and are used in different applications based on their strengths. FDM is known for its versatility and is often used for larger objects, while resin 3D printing excels in producing fine details and intricate designs.
